The Summer of super overs!

Updated: Nov 3, 2019

It couldn’t have been a better summer for Realise Live to take on the brief of designing, building and touring installations at cricket grounds across the nation to whip up fan excitement for the International ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

A blend of high and low tech design ensured that the fan experience at each game started before the first ball was even bowled as fans had the chance to engage, compete and create some extra memories at cricket grounds including The Oval and Lords (London), Old Trafford Cricket Ground (Manchester) and the now-hallowed Edgbaston (Birmingham).

So, aside from the England cricket team, here is a closer look at the Realise Live ICWC19 line up we put into bat below:

Audio Wall: Audio walls were placed on the fans route to the stadium – e.g. underpass walk between train station and stadium, or just inside the gates. The audio speakers, activated by infrared light changes when somebody walks past, gave the fans a flavour of what was to come at the match with facts about the stadium, the history of cricket or fun titbits about the players.

Hashtag Printer: A photo opportunity at which fans could take a photo in front of a large scale photo of the stadium, or using the social media #CWC19SNAP hashtag from anywhere in the stadium, and print a branded polaroid using a touchscreen on the unit to create the perfect take-home momento of their big day at the match.

Hotspot Podium: A circular branded podium with specifically designed base clad in Ultradeck which is safe to use on the cherished (and guarded) cricket lawns around the country. These podiums were also branded on the top to make a great visual piece for the top down / birds eye view cameras used for broadcast to maximise exposure.

Blending physical interaction alongside the fans’ desire for Instagramable/memorial content to share with their friends/family online meant the reach of these installations went far beyond those who attended.

High Five Toblerone/Wall: Two interchangeable installations (depending on cricket ground space. A chance to high five your favourite captain of the two teams playing at each match. The units have an LED counter to keep track of which captain has the most ‘high fives’. There was also a photo opportunity to pose next to your favourite captain.

Mosaic Wall: A chance for fans to create and leave a photo of themselves as part a larger mosaic to commemorate the event. Fans stood in front of an astroturf background and grabbed hold of the cricket bat to pose for a photo. The photo was then automatically sent to the printer in the unit and a tiny photo sticker issued. The fans placed their individual photo sticker (directed in placement using a small code) onto the large mosaic board to eventually reveal fun overall ICC World Cup graphic.

Graffiti Bat: A whiteboard wall with a cricket bat and ball graphic for the cricket fans to sign and pledge their support to their favourite team. The bat has the relevant match (i.e. England vs Sri Lanka) graphic at each event to maximise relevance.

Giant Hashtag: A classic, fun visual piece for the stadium grounds, with an astroturf base made an excellent spot for a classic “I’m at the match” photo opp and a lovely perching place to rest weary feet.

Logistically challenging and a delicate dance between planning, preparation, design and production, but we’ve been absolutely thrilled to have been part of it all. A truly amazing finish for England and a wonderful end to a pretty exciting project for us.
